| Usually, the costs are broken out in several stages: - Pre-procedure and surrogate preparation (before arrival to India)
- IVF Procedure
- Additional Services
- Maternity
Pre-procedure and Surrogate Preparation StageThese charges usually include registration charges, recruitment of surrogate, investigations , medication & preparation of surrogate, food allowance, surrogate insurance and legal agreement charges. Before arrival to India, there's usually an initial fee to get the process started. IVF ProcedureThese charges are usually for one or more IVF cycles which comprise of follicular monitoring, sperm analysis, sperm processing, egg aspiration, egg retrieval, embryo transfer, and lab charges. Medication charges can be included but are estimated depending on your medication protocol. ICSI (a single sperm is injected in egg) can be included in your package. Find out how many attempts are included in package using frozen embryos. Additional Services or CostsAdditional costs should be explained here if doing egg or sperm donation, embryo freezing, sperm freezing, C-section, diagnostic hysteroscopy, surrogate is carrying twins, reduction (in case of more than 2 fetuses), termination, early delivery/premature birth, and longer hospital stays for any type of complication. All this should be SPELLED OUT in your contract before arrival to avoid surprise charges and unexpected fee changes. MaternityWhen your surrogate is pregnant, this will be the rest of her surrogate fee paid out in installments, and antenatal, delivery and baby care charges at the hospital. I have tried to generalize the fee structure, but it might not fit everyone's price quotes. | |

| Make sure you ask for these additional costs BEFORE YOU AGREE TO GO TO A CLINIC and ask whether receipts will be made to you. We should demand it, as it will cover your ass later. I am repeating a little from above, but since Amani has had so much trouble with surprise and upped charges, I'll list them here again with some additions from her: - (if using) Egg donation - Indian or Caucasian
- (if using) Sperm donation - Indian or Caucasian
- Additional attempt using Frozen Embryo Transfer
- Embryo freezing (and for how long)
- Embryo thawing
- Sperm freezing
- C-section delivery
- Diagnostic hysteroscopy
- Surrogate carrying twins or more (if clinic allows more than 2)
- Reduction (in case of more than 2 fetuses)
- Termination (for any medical reason)
- Early delivery/premature birth
- Additional hospital stay days for surrogate if needed
- Additional beta tests or ultrasounds (if pregnancy is complicated)
- Additional medicine charges for special cases if you are over 35 (for example, Heparin)
- Surrogate housing costs
- Surrogate food and care costs
- Cost for amniocentesis
- Cost for DNA testing
- Surrogate's life insurance
- Backup or to change a surrogate fees/cost for finding another
Also, ask if you are signing a contract not just with the surrogate and/or donor, but also with the CLINIC or HOSPITAL. Please be wary that you need to be your own lawyer in India and CYA with paperwork all the time. If things go wrong, you CAN take a clinic to court in India. I have a lawyer in India supporting me and this is what he says. They now have surrogate lawyers in India that can represent foreign Intended Parents. Check under the Legal Issues category in this forum if you want to know more.

| ALSO - see if there is a fully refundable Contingency deposit in case additional costs arise and the clinic/hospital can pull from this fund. Make sure everything is documented. Ask for copies of all medical records too. | |
